Emergency Medical Services
The ECAA provides emergency medical services at the Basic Life Support level (BLS) and the Intermediate Advanced Life Support (iALS) level. We are dispatched by the Lancaster County Wide Communications Center which utilizes an enhanced 911 system. The primary response territory for ECAA totals approximately 23 square miles and has about 35,000 residents. It includes all of Ephrata Borough, Akron Borough and portions of Ephrata Township, Clay Township, West Cocalico Township, West Earl Township and Earl Township. Our EMS service utilizes three BLS ambulances. As of July 2024, a maximum of two ambulances can be used as iALS ambulances. Advanced Life Support services are provided primarily by the WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital via a squad concept.
Paratransit Services
The ECAA provides routine transportation and paratransit medical services. We are dispatched by telephone calls placed to our business office/answering service. The primary transport territory for ECAA includes extended care facilities, clinics, hospitals, doctors offices and residences in Lancaster County. It also includes the Reading and Hershey medical centers. Longer distance transports can be done with 24 hours notice preferred and payment made in advance. We are capable of accepting payments via most major credit cards. ECAA utilizes three paratransit vans for routine medical transports. A routine transport of a patient on a litter requiring oxygen administration requires a BLS ambulance for transport and cannot be done by our paratransit service.
Any person who believes she/he has been discriminated against on the basis of disability, race, color or national origin by the ECAA while providing paratransit services, may file a complaint here.
Standby Services
The ECAA provides standby services at various community events to provide first aid care. These first aid standbys include events such as football games, craft shows, swimming competitions, five mile runs, and the Ephrata Fair. ECAA utilizes any combination of our vehicles to provide the appropriate level of coverage. A fee is charged for these standby services.
